Black & White

Sometimes the often garish colors block our view of other interesting aspects. Light, shadows, textures, shapes, lines, perspectives, spatial divisions are just a few of these important design elements! From a physical perspective, black is the absence of visible light. In black and white, all colors are contained, but at the same time, they are all excluded. Black and white photos lead to a different view of reality. No color can distract our eyes or influence our brains. And so we can use our experience and our imagination to bring color back into black and white. Perhaps this is why Henri Matisse believed that black was the queen of all colors?
